So good I'm blown away

Based on reading "nothing fancy" I originally bought only 1/2lb of this tea when organic Assam was back in stock. I loved the last organic Assam I bought from silver tips, and was prepared to be disappointed in this one, based on the modest description. But boy, was I blown away! This is now my favorite tea ever. I love it so much I wake up looking forward to drinking it, then I think about it all day until I go to bed and can't wait to have it again in the morning. I don't dare drink it in the afternoon or I won't sleep. But it's actually so good I think about it and relish its memory all day long.

My other favorite teas are Doomur Dullung, for its smooth maltiness, and Yorkshire Gold in bags if I'm on the go. THIS tea, however, adds a caramelly taste to the malt. Both malt and caramel are strong. It's heavenly with cream and maple syrup, which is how I take my daily tea. I don't like Hajua estate; it's too tannic/acidic, and I don't like Honse estate; it's too "green" tasting. This organic assam is absolutely perfect. Try it, you may love it too. For me, it's absolute perfection. I've now bought a larger quantity to stock up my tea cupboard for many months. I will be looking for this organic Chardwar estate in future; please keep carrying it, Silver Tips! And get the other one you had too--it'll make a good option for variety.

The Perfect Morning Tea

My tea palate has evolved over time and I only started drinking Assam a few months ago. Prior to that time, black darjeeling teas were my morning staple.

I tried a number of assams and enjoyed each of them. The Organic Assam TGFOP is a medium/full bodied tea with a smooth, nutty after-tasted. It feels silky on the tongue and pairs well with milk. I prefer organic teas and this has become my go-to breakfast tea in the morning. Strong, black and elegant.

If you are a fan of breakfast teas, I suggest giving the Organic Assam a try. It is less bitter than a traditional English/Breakfast tea. And it gives me a jump-start first thing in the morning.

Steeping Instructions

Use 1 heaped tsp. leaf per 8 oz. cup.
Pour boiling water over leaves.
Steep 4-5 mins.
Milk may be added.

OP, BOP, FOP, TGFOP - what's the deal? These are shortcuts for grades of tea. An easy way to cut through all the arcane acronyms is to remember that OP or FOP signifies a full leaf tea and anything with a B in it such as BOP or BP means it has broken leaf in it. India and Ceylon teas in particular, are classified, graded and priced according to leaf size. The larger the leaf the higher the price. A full leaf tea such as OP, FOP or TGFOP, will result in a lighter cup than a smaller broken leaf tea such as BOP or CTC granules which are stronger in taste. OP is Orange Pekoe. FOP is Flowery Orange Pekoe. TGFOP is Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe. BOP is Broken Orange Pekoe and CTC is Crush, Tear & Curl. An OP grade does not automatically translate to quality. But it does mean that it has been manufactured as a full leaf tea.

A more robust Darjeeling

I know that first flush tea is highly esteemed for its elegant, delicate flavor but I like my teas a little stronger. This second flush Makaibari still has the distinctive fragrant, floral character of Darjeeling, but with bolder flavor for a great morning wake-me-up!
