A more robust Darjeeling

I know that first flush tea is highly esteemed for its elegant, delicate flavor but I like my teas a little stronger. This second flush Makaibari still has the distinctive fragrant, floral character of Darjeeling, but with bolder flavor for a great morning wake-me-up!

This is easily our best-selling Makaibari and, like you, the majority of our customers prefer the 2nd flush. It also holds up better through the year compared to the 1st flush. Glad you found your morning Darjeeling!

Tea Education

2nd flush is sometimes called the Easter Flush. The leaf from these bushes has matured a bit since the early spring harvest but it is plucked well before the monsoons arrive which is typically mid-June. Too much moisture results in a greater yield but a lower quality of Darjeeling leaf so 2nd flush is pre-monsoon. 2nd flush leaves, when infused, exhibit a coppery hue to the leaf and the fragrance carries a deeper floral scent. It has more body in the cup with an increased pungency. The 2nd flush harvest has more staying power and is our most popular Makaibari tea.
